Pet Industry Software Development

RaftLabs builds software for the pet industry -- pet service marketplaces, veterinary practice software, pet care business tools, pet adoption platforms, and pet health tracking apps.

The pet industry runs on relationships and trust. Generic software misses the workflows that matter -- pet profiles attached to bookings, health history tied to service records, and matching logic that connects animals with the right adopters or the right care provider.

  • Pet service marketplace with booking and availability

  • Veterinary and grooming practice management

  • Pet adoption platform with matching and applications

  • Pet owner apps with health and care tracking

Pet industry software built around the animal at the center of every transaction

Every pet industry product -- a marketplace, a grooming tool, a vet system, an adoption platform -- has one thing in common: the animal is the key record. A booking without a pet profile attached is incomplete. A health note that doesn't follow the animal from visit to visit is useless. A groomer who can't see that the dog has a skin condition before starting the appointment is working blind.

Generic service software doesn't model that. It handles people booking services. Pet industry software has to model animals as first-class entities -- with species, breed, age, health notes, vaccination status, and care history -- linked to the owners and providers who interact with them. We build systems that reflect that from the start, not platforms adapted from a human services template.

What we build

Pet service marketplace

A marketplace connecting pet owners with groomers, walkers, sitters, trainers, and vets. Provider profiles with services, pricing, and live availability. Pet profiles attached to every booking so the provider sees the animal's breed, age, health notes, and vaccination records before the appointment. Search and filtering by species, service type, location, and availability. Review and rating system with verified booking records. Payment processing with provider payout splits. Trust and safety features for in-home services such as walking and sitting.

Veterinary practice software

Practice management software built for the complexity of clinical animal care. Patient records per animal linked to the client record, with full visit history, clinical notes, vaccination schedule, and prescription history. Appointment scheduling with species and specialty routing. Weight-based prescribing with drug interaction checks. Controlled drug register maintained from dispensing records. Client communication with vaccination due reminders and post-consultation instructions. Billing with insurance claim support and itemised invoicing from the consultation record.

Pet grooming and boarding software

Scheduling and management software for grooming salons and boarding facilities. Appointment booking with pet and breed details recorded at the time of scheduling. Grooming notes and service history per pet -- coat condition, temperament notes, preferred techniques -- visible to any stylist who handles the animal. Service packages and pricing per breed or coat type. Boarding capacity and kennel management with waitlist and departure checklist. Automated appointment reminders and client communication. Staff management and daily schedule view.

Pet adoption platform

A digital platform for shelters, rescues, and breed-specific organisations to list animals available for adoption. Animal profiles with photos, age, breed, temperament notes, medical history, and adoption requirements. Adopter application flow with household questionnaire, reference collection, and staff review. Matching logic that filters animals to applicants based on lifestyle, home type, and experience. Application status tracking for applicants and staff. Foster placement management alongside permanent adoption. Outcome reporting for shelter metrics and grant compliance.

Pet owner mobile app

A mobile app for pet owners to manage care across multiple pets and multiple providers. Pet profiles with health records, vaccination history, and vet contacts. Appointment booking and history across grooming, veterinary, and training services. Medication reminders and care task scheduling. Food and weight logging with trend tracking. Integration with veterinary practice software so health records sync without manual entry. Emergency contact and insurance document storage per pet.

Pet health and care tracking

Health and care tracking tools for pet owners, breeders, and care providers. Weight, food intake, exercise, and behaviour logging with trend charts over time. Vaccination and medication schedule management with automated reminders. Symptom logging that builds a record for the next vet visit. Breeder litter tracking with individual animal records from birth. Integration with wearable devices for activity and sleep data. Export of health history in a format suitable for veterinary consultation or insurance claims.

Frequently asked questions

A directory lists providers. A marketplace handles the transaction. If pet owners need to see live availability, book an appointment, and pay without leaving the platform -- and providers need to manage their schedule, receive bookings, and get paid -- you need a marketplace. A directory works when the provider manages their own booking through their own system and the platform is just a discovery channel. Most pet service platforms that are trying to retain users and earn a commission on transactions need marketplace functionality, not a directory. The technical and product complexity is higher, but so is the defensibility of the platform.

Generic practice management software is built for human medicine. It handles single-patient-per-person records, standard drug databases, and medical billing codes. Veterinary software has to handle multiple animals per client, each with its own record and vaccination schedule. Prescribing requires species-specific drug databases and weight-based dose calculation. The controlled drug register is a legal requirement with specific recording obligations. Invoicing covers products dispensed at the point of care, not just consultation fees. Appointment types need to vary by species and clinical need. These aren't features you can add on top of a human healthcare platform -- they require a different data model from the start.

It depends on what you need to match on. A basic filter -- species, breed, age, size -- is straightforward to build. A deeper match -- one that considers the adopter's home type, activity level, experience with animals, and household composition against the animal's temperament profile and needs -- requires a more structured questionnaire and a scoring model. The hardest part is not the algorithm but getting shelters to fill in consistent, structured data for each animal. If profiles are incomplete or inconsistent, no matching logic produces good results. We scope the data model and intake workflow first, then design the matching logic around what can realistically be captured at the shelter level.

Build the thing that creates the most friction in your current operation. For a pet service marketplace, that is usually the booking and payment flow -- if owners can't complete a transaction on the platform, everything else is a listing site. For a grooming or boarding business, it is usually the appointment and pet profile system -- getting the animal's details attached to the booking before the visit. For an adoption platform, it is the application and review workflow -- if applications are still managed by email, the platform isn't doing its job. We scope every project by working backwards from the problem that costs the most time or money today, not by building every feature at once.
